It is with heavy hearts that we announce that the 2016 St. Joseph Island Triathlon, scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 13th, has been cancelled.

Despite our efforts to encourage registrations, we find the event at less than half the number of paid registrations that we had at this time last year, and even our best projections make the event not financially viable. The event incurs significant costs for timing, police, and ambulance presence, and also requires approximately 100 volunteers. Without enough paid registrations and volunteers, it is simply impossible to host the race safely and successfully.

We want to thank everyone who registered for the race this year, and we will be issuing refunds for the full amount of your registration. You can expect your refund sometime in the next 30 days. We apologize for the hole this creates in your race calendar, and hope you’re able to find another event to fill it. For those looking for something close, there is a race in Petoskey that same weekend. Visit for details.

We will reach out to past participants in the fall to review our options to have the event return in 2017. Thank you all for your support in the past, and we wish everyone a safe and successful summer.
